Art Psychotherapy

What Is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a professional practice that integrates art-making and psychotherapy, providing a comfortable and safe space to address psychological distress and enhance mental well-being. Through the creative process, clients can express and identify their own feelings, learn to confront negative emotions, and resolve internal conflicts. Furthermore, the process strengthens self-awareness and social skills, ultimately fostering greater self-esteem and a more positive outlook on life.
Therapy sessions should always be conducted by a registered art therapist.
Why Art Therapy?
Negative emotions are often difficult to verbalise, but art-making can bypass our defence mechanism and allow us to express our true thoughts and feelings. Art therapy is particularly effective for those who lack the vocabulary, have cognitive challenges, or struggle with verbal expression. Through making art, clients can often access their subconscious, gaining profound insights into life's complexities. Unlike traditional art classes, there's no "right" or "wrong" in art therapy; the focus is never on aesthetics, but on communication and experiences that emerge.
Is Art Therapy Right for Me?
Art therapy prioritises your personal experience and the creative process rather than the artwork itself; therefore, clients do not need any prior artistic experience or background. Services can be tailored for individuals of different ages, social classes, abilities, races, and needs.
