"A Lot Makes Me Unhappy, But Thank You for Telling Me..." Exhibition

The care, empathy, and forgiveness people show stay in our heart.

"A Lot Makes Me Unhappy, But Thank You for Telling Me..." was the third and last chapter of our exhibition series. Centred around "kindness," the exhibition invited visitors to share their unforgettable experience of receiving kindness from others. The goal was to inspire more people to be kind in their lives and spread the kindness.

Inside our exhibition were the confession cards and response cards from the previous exhibitions. In the first exhibition of the series "I Want to Tell You, Actually I Am Not Happy," students shared their innermost feelings, writing about sorrow, loneliness, anxiety, and anger. In the second exhibition "I Know You're Not Happy, but I Want to Tell You...," the empathy and encouragement from strangers transformed into heartwarming responses. This third exhibition, in turn, further aimed to evoke a sense of gratitude for kindness.

Someone remembered a driver's patience with their mother who had mobility issues;

Someone remembered getting a life-saving hiking pole in Nepal;

Someone remembered a passenger on the MTR handing them a tissue when they cried their eyes out;

Someone remembered a colleague that spoke out for them against workplace bullying;

Someone remembered the companionship from a social worker during stressful times;

Someone remembered, although the creative path is lonely, a fellow artist referred them a work opportunity.

The care, empathy, and forgiveness people show stay in our heart.

This exhibition was inspired by an experience shared by a student: they were bawling on the street, and a stranger stopped to console them, which led them to give up their suicide thoughts. We were deeply moved by this experience, it showed that kindness is like a faint light within the darkness, guiding those in despair.

To encourage visitors to pay it forward, we designed a set of cards and acquired a card vending machine to dispense the "Shining Stars of Kindness Cards." Visitors can use this card to thank their friends or strangers for their kindness. We also encourage visitors or those who have received the card to complete the act of kindness written on the back of the card, like thanking your bus driver or sharing an umbrella. Make the world a warmer place.

The designs of the cards were inspired by the stars in the dark night. There were a total of 12 designs, and each primary and secondary school student could draw one for free. We welcomed visitors to prepay the cards for students, and the number of prepaid cards once reached as high as 400.
